A Birthday Wish: To My Virgo Soulmate

My entire FYP has been filled with astrology lately. I can’t get enough of it. The patterns, the playfulness, the adjectives, the unassuming veracity. I think it’s fun to see yourself in things and important to see things in yourself.
I get astrology soulmate compatibility content a lot. I’ll swipe through the slideshows hastily until I spot the word “Sagittarius” and then I’ll scoff at whoever I’m paired with. It’s easy for me to disregard who I’m compatible with because they always get who I’m not compatible with wrong.
According to TikTok astrologers (aka mentally unwell women on the internet with bad tattoos and cool eyeliner), Virgos and Sagittariuses are never compatible. Apparently, I am too messy and idealistic and Amy is too structured and practical. They always describe the friendship or relationship as “doomed” and this word discredits them immediately because all Amy does is give me hope.
Did you know that Sagittarius’ ruling planet is Jupiter? Jupiter is all about excess, it “expands anything it touches.” In astrology, Jupiter represents expansion and abundance. Sagittarius’ believe in always going big and refusing to ever go home.
But Virgos, Virgos rule the digestive system. They are “especially tuned to the ingredients that make up a whole – in food and everything else.” Virgos understand that “everything” is actually just the culmination of an infinite number of little things, small details, and together they all add up to something big and great.
Last September, Amy and I were walking around downtown Chicago and of course I was walking faster than her because I am always in a hurry no matter where I am going. When I realized she wasn’t by my side, I turned around to see she had fully stopped to take photos of the soon to be setting sun peaking through the buildings towering around us. I glanced up and noticed the bright orange light reflecting off one skyrise window to another and how it had begun to illuminate the entire street in a soft and golden glow. I made my way back to Amy and took a couple photos too and then we continued to walk home together.
What TikTok astrologers don’t understand is that for me and Amy to be compatible, I do not have to notice every single detail. I just have to look for her and her under eye sparkles and her matching pajama sets and her curated mood boards and everything else comes into focus.
Happy Birthday to Amy Jo, my Virgo soulmate. Thank you for constantly doing small things with great love and consequently making everything and everyone you touch feel big and seen. As fun as it is to believe in astrology, it’s not nearly as important or impactful as simply believing in you.
