A Thank You

A Thank You: To the boss who was promoted to friend

06/20/2020

Dear Ebony,

I really don’t know what more to say than thank you. Although I am not religious, I fuck heavily with vibes (for lack of a better term haha) and the phrase “love at first vibe” has cemented itself as the foundation of all my most meaningful relationships.

I remember that first in-person interview meeting with you and you were dressed like a boss ass bitch with big earrings and bright lipstick and my first thought was “this woman is so cool.” Then I learned about your career path in that interview and thought “this woman is so smart and so hardworking and so real” and I remember just being so excited to work for you and wanting to impress you and make you proud of me because of how much I already admired you. Reflecting back on the interview, I know for a fact it was love at first vibe.

You took me to some cool ass events and places but honestly our car ride conversations to those things are some of my favorite memories. You taught me so much professionally, but the things you taught me personally have shaped and guided my values and my vision for my life. Your passion for people and for creating and promoting equitability was undeniably contagious.

I’m currently on the board of directors for a nonprofit in development and I am the youngest member and the only female person of color. I plan on attending grad school (once Zoom University is out of the picture) to acquire my M.P.A. and I hope to make the world the better place just as you do.

I adore you so much. You inspire me in every way possible to be the best and most authentic version of myself. And I hope I am making you proud.

Love,
Grace
